Vogue 8232

Monday, April 4

Apparently I am on a roll .

I made another dress this weekend.

On one of my many online excursions, I fell across a lovely version of Vogue 8232 by Georgia on the Sew Tessuti blog and it made me buy the pattern the very next day. I've made up mind that my summer has already started so I will be using loads of bright patterned fabric. I don't care much for spring, and to me there's not much difference between Summer and Spring in London anyways.

Here's me looking all demure. lol

And here's how I will be wearing it to work. Actually I wore this dress to work today, and as I type, I am wearing it.

I even overlocked the seams( my first time of doing so). I don't have an overlocker, but my machine has an overlocker foot, so I took advantage of that. Its really boring when you have already finished the dress, and then you remember you have to "finish" the seams. I was just too excited that the dress came out all right, and did not want to bother myself with the seam finishes.

Materials

2 metres Stretch cotton
22" zip
hook and eye

For the first time I actually prewashed the fabric. I have been reading alot about the importance of prewashing or pre-shrinking your fabric before cutting. So I tried it too. 2 weeks ago I bought some fabric from Goldhawk road, and as soon as I came home, I chucked all of them into the washer. I am turning into a proper seamstress I think. lol

I learned from the mistake I made with the last dress. The pattern called for a 22" zip, and I used a 16" zip. This time I took no chances, and got the proper zip.

The Making

The skirt as usual was easy. Since I had used it for the last dress, I knew what to expect.

The top neckline gaped abit, but I don't mind, as it is not very visible. Plus I have not yet worked out how to adjust patterns, so I won't be tempering with it.

I love the fact that it has princess seams. I think Princess seams flatter the figure more.

As expected, I had issues inserting the zip. Like I mentioned in my last post, I prefer invisible zips as I find them very easy. However, I had to scratch my head for a long time to get the zip right. I  know some people find zips easy, but I have not inserted too many, so I still find them quite challenging.

I wonder what I am going to sew next. I'm going away in August to Mallorca, so I've decided to sew my holiday wardrobe. But there is the matter of deciding the type of stuff I want to wear while on holidays.

  4. Your dress looks great. The florals are nice and summery but the dark background means you could easily wear it through to Autumn. Perfect!
