Missing my machine!!!

Monday, August 8

How sad can one´s life get?

I am here in a sunny place, but I wish I was home.

Strange right?

Maybe not. For those of you who don´t live in the UK, you will have noticed by now that all we in the UK seem to moan about is the weather, and lack of sunshine. So why is that I am moaning....again....when I am lucky enough to be enjoying a sunny trip?

I am homesick.

Don´t get me wrong. I am happy here in spain with my family, but I just feel there´s something missing. I miss my machine. I miss sewing. I miss wondering if I am sewing in a straight line. I miss getting frustrated with my sewing project.  And it does not help that I keep seeing all the wonderful things my sewing friends keep making.

arrrgghhh!!!!!!

Normally when I see something I like, I want to try my hand at it immediately. Unfortunately I can´t do that here, because my husband would have killed me if I had brought my sewing machine along ( yeah it also sounds pathetic to me now), and I also forgot my fabric paints. I had planned on doing some fabric painting, but in the mad rush from the house to the airport, forgot my paints. So, I have nothing remotely creative to do. That kills me. If anything, my trip has made me realise how much sewing has taken over my life.

I´ve only got a couple of days left to soak up the sun. I know as soon as I come back to London I will start moaning again about the weather, but for now, I´m happy to moan about not being able to sew.

Right, now that my little moaning spell is over, I shall retire to my novel and some sangria.

Do you also miss your machine when you are away from it?

Take care ladies.

  1. Absolutely! What's ridiculous is when I'm home with my machine, half the time I don't do any sewing, but when I'm away all I can think about is sewing!

  3. I totally know what you mean Dibs, I always miss sewing when I'm away. Do enjoy Spain while it lasts though, cause the weather here is really not great!

  4. well, sure, I miss my machine when I'm away from it. That's why I'm glad I knit. I can take that with me :)

Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

  5. Absolutely! I definitley miss my machine when I'm away. Luckily most of our holidays are to our holiday home so I take it with me on long breaks but not if it's only for the weekend. You're giving me ideas here.... maybe I need to get a machine to leave there permanently.

Enjoy the rest of your sunny break and have a sangria for me.

  6. I think it's normal to feel like that when you go on holiday. You look forward to your holidays but after a few days there you start missing your hobbies, sewing machine etc and I think that's a sign that the change of scene is actually doing your good and recharging your batteries for new projects when you get home. Make the most of your holiday - your machine will be waiting for your when you get back! I know I'll also miss my hobbies when we go on holiday on Saturday, but I don't think I'll be taking my sewing machine with me on a bus from northern Greece to Turkey! I might take some knitting, though. Take care and have a great time!

  8. @Shelly

Thats a good idea Shelly. I think the only time I might be able to use a mahcine on holidays is if I go home to cameroon because my mom has many machines.
