I made some undies. YAY!!
I was sort off forced into making these. Due to the fact that I had an emergency C-Section when having Noah, I was advised by the midwives to invest in large undies. I'm talking full briefs here people, those that threaten to reach your chest. So I did just that, handing out a couple of pounds for shiny new size 16 undies from M&S.
I loved those undies. Loved them so much that even when I did not need them, I continued wearing them. I could have lived in them forever. Mr.Dibs on the other hand, was not impressed. He started with subtle hints about my oversized undies, mumbling here and there. I ignored him of course. The mumbling grew louder, untill one day, fed up with my lack of action, he plainly told me what he thought of my lovely size 16 M&S undies. I'm not going to repeat it here, but suffice it to say these new lace undies I have made are a direct result of Mr. Dib's complaint.
This is not the first time I am dabbling in underwear construction. Last year I went crazy, made a few undies, went on a stretch lace shopping binge on ebay, and then promptly fell out of love with making my own undies.
I used the same Jalie pattern as last time. This is such an easy pattern to use, and I really love this style of undies. As you would have noticed, there is only one really bright colour. Somehow its really hard to find wide stretch laces in the right width and colour here in the UK. I intend to buy as many bold colours as I can afford when I get to Amsterdam. Neon green anyone?
You're an undies-making machine. They are all so delicate and pretty.
ReplyDeleteNeon green ones would be super fun!
I will make sure I bring some back for you. lol
DeleteAll are beautiful. I need to make some more because in this heat it's crucial that I change more than once a day!
ReplyDeletethanks. I wish we had the same heat as you. Here the sun seams to have a taken a trip.
DeleteAh, farewell to the granny pants.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately hahahahaa.
DeleteDibs, they're lovely. I have some wide stretch lace. How wide does it need to be? What pattern do you use? Would you send a copy in exchange for some two tone purple (if it's the right width of course! I'm a size 16ish as well!
ReplyDeleteWell done.
The width depends on your size. For those of us with generous hips and behinds, it will be wider. I can trace your size for you and send, along with the instructions. You don't have to send me the lace. lol. How wide is yours? I will check the pattern again and see what it says.
DeleteThat's really kind of you. The lace I have is 7"/18cm approx wide. I have some white, but that is only 5" wide. Suspect that really isn't sufficient! I'll try and find an email address for you to send my address.
DeleteDibs, must be blind, but I can't see your email address anywhere. Please could you send it to me at pauline@ivyvillas.co.uk and I'll send you my address.
DeleteFabulous idea! Lace undies are so expensive from the shops. Where do you get the stretch lace from? I need to make some for myself pronto!
ReplyDeletehttp://unique-1985.blogspot.com/
I got them last year from a shop on ebay called Lindy Laces, but it looks like the shop does not exist anymore. If you look on ebay, I'm sure there will be other people selling. You can also get them from http://www.corsetmaking.co.uk/store/.
Deletethey are so cool, I am seriously impressed
ReplyDeleteThank you. They are dead easy to make. Only 2 pattern pieces, the main body and the gusset.
DeleteThese are gorgeous! I love them! I would feel like a princess in lacy undies!
ReplyDeletehahahahhahaha.
DeleteMy husband walked past, and asked me if I was planning to buy some new undies. From the tone of his voice, I can tell you he liked them a lot :o)
ReplyDeleteThey look wonderful, but don't you feel the need to line them with a patch of cotton?
hahahhahaha. Well spotted. I ran out of cotton lining, so I am going to put them later when it gets through the post.
DeleteI use a mens cotton t-shirt from Walmart-the largest size they have. Someone out there in blogland figured out it was actually cheaper than buying fabric. They were right-it is.
DeleteLovely selection there. I have only made one pair of knickers and that involved me staring at the unsewn gusset for over an hour trying to figure out what I can only describe as origami sewing, trying to get the seams all hidden! I would love to make some more thought!
ReplyDeleteOh these ones are very easy. The lace caries it off. You cut the pattern on a fold. its not complicated. You should look for a similar pattern, or get the jalie one.
DeleteLove your undies! I just started a learning curve to make them also. You are lucky you could find the wide lace you used, even though you think you have little choice, there is NO choice here in Phoenix, AZ, and only a very narrow choice with the online USA companies. Ugh! Anyway, appreciated your tips!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cherie. Have you looked at the Bra Makers Supply? They might have some.
DeleteNo complaints from Mr Dibs I guess?
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
They look so professional! And that's important when you clearly have such a discerning audience....and having to forsake your wonderful "parachute" pants. Gorgeous, all of them
ReplyDeleteWow! Snazzy pants! ;)
ReplyDeletePretty pants! :)
ReplyDeleteSuper pretty :) and I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only sewist who likes to make her own panties!
ReplyDeleteNeon green ones would be positively electric! These all look very lovely and very comfortable - well done!
ReplyDeleteStop kidding, where did you buy them?
ReplyDeleteThey're just lovely, great job!
Your undies look fabulous, the bright color one is my favorite! I've never made undies before, you have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love these! I have just ordered the Jalie pattern. Can't wait for it to come...hope I can find some lace as nice as yours!
ReplyDeleteThese are just marvellous ! Love this kind of underwear
