Paris and a Milestone

Yes Paris!

I went to Paris for the first time last month, and I was absolutely enchanted. Unfortunately I do not have pictures of the city, but you can google it, and I can assure you, millions of pictures will pop up.

I went for my alumni reunion, and decided to hang out with some cool peeps, just because I'm cool like know?. I went on a Friday, but met up with Veronica and Sandra on Sunday, for what turned out to be an amazing day ( thanks girls).

So, on Sunday, I was picked up from my hotel by Veronica, who treated me to some French crepe, and believe me, I have never tasted crepes so good. Why don't we make them like this in London? We met up with Sandra later, and then drove to a fabric market in another town called Sarcelles. Again, I do not have pictures of our time here because Sandra and Veronica were quite vocal about not wanting me to take my camera into the market. Thieves you know! So if you need someone to blame for any lack of pictorial evidence, you know where to look.

Veronica and Sandra

The market was really cheap, just my kind of place, and we scored big. I bought loads of fabric, but only spent about 15 Euros. A lot of what I bought was left over pieces of fabric, as I did not want to carry too much fabric back to London. I actually made a concious effort to go to Paris with the smallest suitcase known to man, just to prevent an over zealous purchase of fabric. Sandra, it seems, was born to be an enabler, because she came prepared with shopping bags, and of course, as I knew I would when she said she was bringing bags, I brought out my wallet.

I can't even show you pictures of what I came back with, because I now have reliable intelligence that Mr.Dibs does read my blog, and I don't want any exhibit A's of my fabric buying slip up.  The girls and I spent time trying to come up with believable reasons for my extra luggage, and we agreed on the "gift" story.

"Yes, I was "gifted" all these lovely fabric dear." Said the wife to the husband, who snorted in disbelief, and walked to the kitchen to make himself some Earl Grey tea. Wondering, as is his wont, when his wife would admit to having an incurable fabric buying addiction.

I digress......

I had such a great time, laughing till my face hurt. Sandra, who looks (and sounds) so shy and quiet on her blog was in person, quite bubbly, and Veronica just cracked me up with her dry sense of humour. Very British. It also turned out she used to work for the company I now work for. Small world huh?. In the end, after fighting amongst ourselves for lovely fabric, we went to a lovely Indian restaurant for lunch.

The day sadly, had to come to an end as I was returning to London that evening. The girls kindly took me back to Paris as I wanted to buy some perfume and some macaroons. As first trips go, this was a really memorable one, and I am hoping to go back in the summer. I shall drag Mr.Dibs there, whether he likes it or not. He must propose to me again on the Eiffel Tower. I don't care how cheesy that sounds. I want my Eiffel tower proposal.

In other news, someone turned 1 last month.

He spent the day eating cake, watching TV....

and making faces at everyone.....

  1. Your son is the cutest! Congratulations to him and to you both on your first yer as parents!
Your friends were right, you do not want to get you camera seen in Sarcelles. You have to be careful in Paris altogether.

And what a cool meetup! And good to know about leaving the camera behind.. I'd have been all touristy and dragged my camera had I not read this.

Now Dibs, you can't say you got gifted lovely fabrics and not show them to us.

  5. Aaaw Dibs, I can't believe Noah's 1 already! I miss the little fella, he was so adorable and loveable when you all came up for the day. And as for Paris, I feel in love when I visited glad it was a memorable trip for you ;o)

  9. OMG is Noah ever adorable (like there could be any doubt, of course). So glad you had a good time in Paris.

Your husband sounds like mine, I can't post about all my fabric purchases either. The only difference being mine would make himself a cup of dark roast coffee. Time for that blog of requirement. 8-)

  10. Beautiful Baby Gibs. What a wonderful opportunity to visit Paris and buy fabric to boot!

  11. Ohh that's fab trip.. Are you coming Saturday next week? We need to catch up x

  12. Noah!! He is too sweet-- what a cutie! And oh, Paris! It's just so beautiful! My husband refused to believe that I hadn't chosen the apartment we rented because it was four (4!!!!!) blocks from their fabric district, but I swear it was a happy coincidence! :) I've never heard of Sarcelles, but it sounds like a fun place to shop! Oh, and I'm loving your hair-- it's so sassy and cool!

  13. sounds like you had a great time :) I love how cute Noah is and wow how fast has that year gone?!

You must have had a great time in Paris! It's still on my travel wish list, so I'm a bit envious :)

  15. Happy birthday to young Noah! Glad you had a good trip to Paris, it is an amazing city and in the Spring... Although it's perhaps a wee bit chilly at the moment judging by your photos. Certainly Mr Dibs needs to take you and propose - again! :-)

  16. Niice! Looks like you ladies had mucho fun. The last time I was there I wasn't a sewist yet so I missed out on all the fabric fun. And the last photo-<3 Can't wait to see pics of your re-proposal XD

  17. Happy birthday No-no's! (You call him that don't you? Try it again when he's 20 - such a hoot!)
